I was born in the Milwaukee area and grew up in Milwaukee’s County’s north suburbs. I was fortunate to attend three excellent, and very different schools, each with their own strengths and challenges. This mix of parochial, private and public schools varied in everything from cost and dress code to administration and student census. Cumulatively, they instilled in me a unique perspective on education and a drive for lifelong learning.
I graduated from UW-Madison in four years with majors in English, Strategic Communications and History. I worked as a technical writer for Midwest Airlines for five years, during which I married my husband Chris (celebrating 20 years this November). When we welcomed our first child in 2008, I became a stay-at-home mom. I continued in that important role for 10 years as our family expanded to three daughters.
Re-entering the workforce after a decade was intimidating, but I was determined to demonstrate that I could serve the community and contribute financially to our household. I served as executive director of a small 40-year-old nonprofit for two years. Then in 2021, I transitioned to my current professional role as marketing director of a nonprofit hospital guest house in Milwaukee. I love our team of staff and many volunteers, and I am proud of our work providing affordable lodging and caring support to families who need to travel to Milwaukee for our top-notch medical care.
My family moved to Brookfield in 2013. We were drawn to the area because of the proximity to family, the low taxes and the high-quality public schools.
My oldest daughter started kindergarten at Brookfield Elementary that fall, and I was eager to get involved. Despite having a preschooler and an infant at home, I signed up right away as a room parent. I haven’t slowed down since, and I’ve loved every minute.
I have consistently been highly involved in the community, volunteering with my children’s schools, scouts, area nonprofits and my church. Along the way, I’ve encountered many parent volunteers who share similar values: prioritizing family, finances and education. I’m inspired by this community of volunteers to continue my path of service as a school board member.
The Elmbrook School District is known for academic excellence both locally and nationally, and it is one of the leading reasons families choose to make this area home. However, the school governance landscape has changed, and like many districts, ours has, at times been inhibited by obstruction when it is best served through continuous collaboration. A vote for me is a vote to change that — and a vote to keep our district moving forward — always with the best interest of our students and educators at the forefront of every decision.
I am the only current district parent in this race. Our schools deserve a candidate who knows and experiences this district first-hand as a parent. Our schools deserve an advocate who believes in public education, who understands the role of the school board, and who has demonstrated a commitment to our schools.I am also a seasoned nonprofit professional with experience providing and receiving high-level board oversight. Finally, I am a volunteer who has given my time and talent to improving this community by building functional teams and consensus along the way.
